Kenda Newbury, Artistic Director

Kenda Newbury, Artistic Director of AZDance Group and AZDance Entertainment, is a professional freelance choreographer, performer and instructor of dance for over 25 years.  She has taught master classes throughout Europe, Australia and the United States and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Boston Conservatory. 

Currently, she is the 2007 Performing Art Chair of the ACNV's Festival of Fine Art, Board Member for Arts Council of the North Valley, advisory board member on the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble board, performing artist coordinator for Anthem's Music in May Concert Series 2007, Southwest Director for the International Sacred Dance Guild, board member of the newly formed Arizona Dance Coalition, a member of Alliance for Audience, Boston Dance Alliance and Lifetime member of SAI.  Ms. Newbury was the performing artist coordinator for Anthem Days 2006, Anthem's Music in May Series 2006 and the Phoenix Symphony concert in Anthem, Arizona.. She was nominated for the 2004 Arizona Governor Arts Awards.   Known as "Ms. Kenda" or "Ms. Newbury" in the dance world, her works have been seen on stages from coast to coast - concert dance works, large productions, theatrical productions, equestrian events, Winter Guard, synchronized swim teams, musicals, industrials, conferences and conventions.

Classically trained in Phoenix, Arizona by Mr. Kelly Brown and the Phoenix School of Ballet (former soloist with the American Ballet Theatre, father of Ethan Brown & Leslie Browne), Kenda was fortunate to have received exceptional dance training and professional performing experience from influential instructors/coaches (partial list), including:  Stanley Holden, Gus Giordano, Jurgen Schneider, Sue Ronson, Gelsey Kirkland, Janina Cunova, Francesca Corkle, Luigi, Sam Kurkjian, Frank Hatchet, Ralph Lemon, Alvin Ailey & Company Members, Donna Silva, Hubbard Street, Paul Koverman, Michael and Mdm. Messerer, Charlton O'Neal, Michael Rooney, Julie Ince-Thompson, Sarah Skaggs, Jelko Yuresha, Keith and BJ Martin, Jelko Yurisha, Glenda Folk, Laura Hurley Koverman, Gregory Hines, Gene Castle and Madame Darvash to name a few.  She had the opportunity to perform for Tommy Tune, Gregory Hines, Prince of Monaco and Sofia Loren.

Her teaching credentials are varied and include Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education, Phoenix School of Ballet, Boston College, Ballet Arizona, Trollwood Performing Arts School, Paradise Valley Community College and other Maricopa County Com. Colleges, Boston University and numerous dance studios. Currently she is teaching part-time at Dynamic Motion Dance Academy (DMDA) in Anthem, Arizona, a studio who has graciously donated their space for the company's rehearsals.  Ms Newbury directed the 2006 Summer Theatre Arts Intensive (STAI) in Anthem, Arizona.

Her students are world-wide dancing in dance companies and highly acclaimed university dance programs - Boston Ballet, Alvin Ailey Dance, University of Arizona, The Boston Conservatory, Royal Dance Academy, North Carolina School of the Arts, American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Arizona, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, Columbia College, Ballet Austin, Brigham Young University, Arizona State University, cruise ships, Las Vegas shows, Off-Broadway and Broadway productions.
